The year of 1997, because of the invitation from the “Grupo Folklorico Excelsior” from Gijon, to do a cultural change, arised the possibility to realize a folklore’s festival, which was called “Herrien Arteko I. Folklore Jaialdia”.

This first edition of “Nation’s dances and music festival” of 1997 was an adventure for the group’s components, in first time because the lack of experience in the organitation for this like events, and second, because of we had a little time, because the organitation was started in July and in summer the festival hadn’t a date.

After the meetings with the Barakaldo`s Town Hall, exactly with the Culture department, it decided that the suitable days were the two last weekend of November, because it was a time with a little folklore activity and, also it was a musical festival, it was coincided which the Sta Cecilia celebration, patron saint of musicians.

The “Herrien Arteko I Folklore Jaialdia” was celebrated at last in November, 15th an 16th of 1997 year, in Barakaldo`s Theatre with the participation of “Grupo Folkloriko Excelsior” from Gijon, “Grupo de Jotas Cinco Villas” from Bardena (Zaragoza) and the organisation group, “Ibarra-Kaldu”.

All this did that we were considering to devote continuity to the festival. For it We Contacted ourselves, across the Area of Culture of Barakaldo's town hall, with almost all the Spanish provinces, in order to create a base of information on folklore groups in spite of that establishing contacts for later(posterior) editions of the festival.
